Skin Cancer Excision and Repair
Dermatologic skin cancer excision and repair is Dr. Mackey’s primary focus. Surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis in our specially equipped surgical suite. A biopsy is performed at the first appointment. If a surgical appointment is needed, it is then scheduled after a diagnosis has been determined. Our primary goal is helping you understand your treatment options and procedure. Dr. Mackey offers a face-to-face discussion, allowing you to make a knowledgeable decision on your skin care.
Laser Hair Removal - GentleLASE System
Shaving, waxing, plucking and depilatory creams can only be a temporary solution to remove unwanted hair on the body. For many years, electrolysis seemed to be the only permanent hair removal option. We use the new GentleLASE system in our office. The system safely removes hair without damaging any of the surrounding tissues or pores. Smaller areas, such as facial areas or the bikini line, can be treated with the GentleLASE system in less than 10 minutes while larger areas take a longer period of time.
Multiple treatments are necessary for permanent hair reduction. Final reduction can range from 80-98% clearance. The number of treatments range from 4-6 with 5-6 weeks in between each session. Some patients require more or less treatments, depending on the amount of hair that is present. Some people may have a lower percentage of reduction due to lighter, thinner hair. There is a separate fee for each treatment session. Following a treatment, a patient may experience redness and mild swelling at the treated site lasting anywhere from 1-3 days. This is a temporary occurrence that will subside. The treated areas may feel like a sunburn for several days. There is a possibility of temporary pigmentation changes of the skin that may occur with this procedure, either a lighter or darker discoloration, which usually resolves within a couple of days to several months. The laser has a coolant that is built in that provides comfort and is often enough for pain relief. With each laser pulse, the patient will experience a burst of cooling spray followed by a warm “quick snap” which is comparable to a mild rubber band snap. This sensation is the actual heat being absorbed by the hair follicle. A topical anesthetic is also available at the clinic for pain relief, ElaMax (or LMX 4) and should be applied according to the directions on the label. It is acceptable to shave in between treatments. Waxing, tweezing and plucking should be discontinued 4-6 weeks before starting laser treatments and also in between treatments. At least 2-4 days of growth should be present at the time of treatment. Ingrown hairs will also be targeted by the laser and will eventually be removed by either exfoliation of the skin or break down and absorption by the body. The number of ingrown hairs will decrease after the first couple of treatments. Patients have different expectations and may proceed with as many touch-ups as needed to obtain desired results.
Chemical Facial Peels
There are various types of chemical facial peels that can aid in skin rejuvenation. We have a licensed esthetician on staff who gives facials and performs superficial peels (“weekend peels”). Superficial peels generally last 15-20 minutes after the chemical peeling agent (glycolic acid) is placed. The agent helps to resurface the upper layers of the skin to restore a more youthful, healthy look. Dr. Mackey also performs medium depth peels (35% trichloracetic acid peel). A medium depth peel requires more healing days; however, it will also yield better results than with a superficial peel. Breaking through the deeper skin layers, medium depth peels are a popular option for skin rejuvenation. Ask us which chemical facial peel may be right for you.
RADIESSE®
What is RADIESSE?
RADIESSE is a safe, FDA-approved dermal filler that restores a natural, youthful look and lasts longer than the former leading filler. This convenient treatment fills and corrects smile lines, Nasolabial Folds and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. RADIESSE is made of unique calcium-based microspheres suspended in a natural gel that is injected into the skin through a simple, safe and minimally invasive procedure.
How does RADIESSE work?
RADIESSE works with your body, below the skin's surface. Tiny calcium-based microspheres form a "scaffold" to support and stimulate the growth of your own collagen. Over time, the calcium-based microspheres gradually break down and are safely and naturally absorbed by your body. RADIESSE does more than just temporarily fill-in facial folds and wrinkles - it rebuilds your skin's foundation and restores your youthful look, without the risks associated with a permanent implant.
How soon can I expect results?
How long will the results last?
The results are immediate, RADIESSE typically lasts a year or more, longer than your former leading filler, saving you time and money. Since results may vary, be sure to discuss your expectations with your doctor.

Is RADIESSE safe?
Yes. Hundreds of thousands of patients have experienced RADIESSE and more than 4,000 physicians worldwide have been trained to provide RADIESSE treatments. Through years of clinical studies and independent research, RADIESSE has proven to be safe and effective. With RADIESSE, you get FDA-approved, safe, clinically tested reliability.
How is RADIESSE treatment performed?
RADIESSE is injected into the skin through a simple, safe, convenient procedure. typically administered in a doctors office, with the use of a local anesthetic, RADIESSE treatments have little to no downtime, with most patients returning to normal activities soon after treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Many patients will achieve their desired result after just one visit. Because RADIESSE is a longer-term cosmetic enhancement, and to ensure your satisfaction , your physician might schedule a follow-up visit, where a touch-up treatment may be recommended.
Are there any side effects?
Normal, injection-related reactions, such as mild irritation, swelling, itching, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site may occur. These conditions typically resolve on their own.
Is RADIESSE permanent?
No. Treatment results are long-lasting, but not permanent. the calcium-based microspheres gradually break down and are safely and naturally absorbed by your body so you will have none of the risks associated with a permanent implant.
How much does it cost?
RADIESSE treatments are customized for each patient so the price varies. In general, the cost of RADIESSE is comparable to similar procedures. And because RADIESSE is long-lasting, you'll also save money... and time. Please consult your physician to discuss your RADIESSE treatment plan.
